On March 8th Atlanta’s scraggly haired, lanky weirdo [and by weirdo I mean genius] Bradford Cox played the Paradise Rock Club in Allston… Come on guys. You know Bradford Cox. He became famous for being forced to play Russian Roulette while being held in a prison camp during the Vietnam war. They made a movie about it. What it is called? Oh ya…
The Deer Hunter!
NO NO NO, that can’t be right. De Nero would never be caste to play such an awkwardly designed human being. HMM … wait I got it! DUH. Cox’s is known for being in the band called DEERHUNTER! Deerhunter was born in Atlanta, Georgia and has been creating innovative and experimental music for more than a decade.
And, while watching Cox’s solo project Atlas Sound on stage, it became obvious how much DEERHUNTER relies on his talents.
Joining Cox on tour was the opening band, also from Atlanta, called Carnivores and a DJ called White Rainbows. I thought the Carnivores rocked it and it seemed like the crowd would agree. They reminded me of an ’80s punk band. Before the show started, Adam [White Rainbows] requested that if I didn’t like his music to, “shut the fuck up and don’t write anything,” because, I probably just didn’t understand his music. So ya, I guess ambient noise and DJing are so complex these days that only the extremely intellectual people of this planet can appreciate them. Damn! How am I ever suppose to cover Together Boston in two weeks with a mere state school education?!? Damn you blue collar roots! I knew I should have gone to Harvard!
